Solar Construction

SVS Solar

Taproot Construction played a key role in the development of the Southern Virginia Solar (SVS) project in Danville, Virginia — one of the largest utility-scale solar farms in the region. The expansive site required predrilling for a variety of solar post types across challenging and variable subsurface conditions.

As part of the scope, Taproot predrilled and backfilled over 16,000 holes with flowable fill, creating a stable path for post-driving crews to follow behind. Post embedment depths ranged from 48 to 120 inches, supporting a combination of racking, non-racking, and auxiliary posts.

This predrill-and-fill method ensured consistent installation performance, minimized refusal rates, and allowed for rapid follow-on installation by the post-driving teams. Taproot’s ability to coordinate effectively across such a large site and maintain high production rates helped keep the project on track for energization. Once completed, SVS will deliver up to 150 megawatts of renewable energy to the region’s grid.
