Commonwealth – Vintage 1
Taproot contributed to the redevelopment of the historic Cole Manufacturing site into the Commonwealth – Vintage 1 mixed-use destination by installing segmental underpinning to restore and stabilize the original masonry footings. The retrofitted structure, dating back to the early 1900s, is one of two century-old brick buildings preserved and repurposed for retail and restaurant use.
Our underpinning work was essential to transferring foundation loads from deteriorating masonry onto a new support system while maintaining the structural integrity of the building throughout construction. Segmental underpinning was installed from within the existing structure where limited overhead clearance and tight spaces presented significant challenges. The segmental system provided a low-vibration solution ideally suited for fragile masonry, allowing us to minimize disruption to the surrounding structures.
The result: a structurally sound foundation that supports a modern vision while honoring the site’s industrial legacy.
