Cross Charlotte Trail
As part of the transformative Cross Charlotte Trail initiative, the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County joined forces to deliver a 30-plus mile multi-use path connecting Pineville to the UNC Charlotte campus and extending to the Cabarrus County line. Taproot was proud to support this ambitious greenway project with the installation of two permanent soldier pile and precast panel retaining walls, totaling 4,500 square feet.
Designed to meet NCDOT specifications, the soldier piles were hot-dip galvanized and finished with a custom grey coating for long-term durability and visual consistency. The precast panels showcased a textured “Random Slate” architectural finish, blending seamlessly with the surrounding landscape and enhancing the trail’s aesthetic appeal.
Taproot tackled the project’s constraints with precision and efficiency. Working in areas with tight access, elevated groundwater and soils prone to caving, our team implemented specialized drilling techniques and temporary casing to maintain hole stability and ensure accurate pile installation. Careful planning and sequencing were essential to navigate the tight working conditions while minimizing impact to the surrounding trail and environment.
This project reflects a strong commitment to infrastructure that not only performs but also complements the public spaces it supports.
